I REMEMBER narrowboatworld holding photographic competitions a few years back, but now it seems 'everybody' is now holding such competitions related to the waterways, writes Geoff Lines.
Canal & River Trust (Cart) jumped on the bandwagon together with British Waterways Marinas Ltd (BWML) and even local canal-side towns.
Same winners
The latest was Rugby, that has just announced its winner, and like many others—CaRT too—the winner is a photograph of a boat appearing out of the mist.
There was some surprise at the CaRT having a similar winner, when one of a kingfisher with a fish in its mouth, was described by one of the judges, Tony Hales, as 'one in a million'. But it is thought that having a winner of a bird eating a fish would upset the anglers too much, as good as it was, so they plumbed for the old reliable of a boat appearing out of the mist.
