Keeping interest going

KEEPING the interest going in the Bedford & Milton Keynes Waterway Project, the Mayor of Milton Keynes, Councillor Brian White hosted a lunchtime V.I.P. cruise on the Grand Union Canal.

He took the assembled councillors, developers and planners, along the waterway, with all looking at the benefits of waterside developments for the
local communities, that the link between the Grand Union Canal and River Great Ouse would make.

Waterways parks

The link from the Grand Union at Milton Keynes to the River Great Ouse at Kempston in Bedford, would create a string of waterway parks and leisure facilities along the route.

Councillor White explained:

"I have supported this project from day one and am pleased to see the progress that it is making. We all look forward to seeing part of the waterway built in Milton Keynes shortly."

There is already a completed canal underpass in place under the new A421 dual carriageway near to Wootton Green, (pictured) but the venture needs the canal dropping down Brogborough Hill just under 100ft and there is the M1 to negotiate.
