Canal college for job seekers

CANAL College is a scheme to tackle youth unemployment in Falkirk and Edinburgh, which is open to young people between 16 and 25 years of age who haven't been able to secure a job or place in further education.

Falkirk Provost Pat Reid joined the first young volunteers to graduate from the new Canal College at an awards ceremony held at The Falkirk Wheel earlier this month.

Range of skills

Over the 14 week programme, the young people have gained a wide range of heritage and environment skills and awards through projects on the Forth & Clyde and Union canals and at The Falkirk Wheel.

The college is funded up until June 2015. The second programmes in Edinburgh and Falkirk started this week. The third programme will begin next January.
