ANOTHER Thames bridge is planned for Reading, that will connect the railway station with Christchurch Meadows.

This new footbridge is already causing problems, with the local council believing it should have a separate lane for cyclists to avoid conflict with walkers.

Not wide enough

The group Reading Cycling Campaign want the extra lane, but the bridge is not wide enough to accommodate it, though it is realised that many cyclists, at present using the other two bridges over the river will use it.

However, a spokesman for Sustrans stated that the extra lane for cyclists was not enforceable.
