New rules for Cam users

THE Cam Conservators are considering drawing-up new rules to regulate bad behaviour on the river in Cambridge.

The recent hot weather has brought an outbreak of bad behaviour on the crowded river with confrontations including a man with a broken leg.

Overcrowded

The river has been so overcrowd with people hiring punts—many having very little knowledge of the rules of the river—with collisions being unavoidable, some obviously intended.

The man who suffered a broken leg had it crushed by a trip boat that collided with the punt, and though it was obvious he had been badly hurt, the trip boat carried on.

Narrowboats

There were further incidents reported, with a rowing eight practising a racing start by moored narrowboats, complaints being met with derision, furthering the animosity.

A report stated that such behaviour could result in penalties.
