No military floating pub

THERE will be no military themed floating pub on the Thames as it has been refused planning permission for its inappropriate style.

Named The Guardsman, it was intended to have the floating pub moored on the river in Windsor, but was rejected by the both the local council, the Environment Agency, Eton Town Council and businesses and residents, Alan Tilbury reveals.

However, its applicant, Ian Burley responded:

"I cannot understand how this albeit unusual vessel, moored on the riverside, would harm the conservation area. We took the view that it would regenerate Thames Side."

Six pubs closed

He also pointed out that six pubs had closed in the area within the last two years, rather than bemoaning those it would have been good to praise one opening.

The proposal received 33 community objections, but a spokesman for Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead branch of the Campaign for Real Ale thought the proposal showed the kind of innovation other pubs should follow.
