Leicester Line reopens

THE Leicester Line of the Grand Union Canal was reopened today (Saturday) after the Debdale Embankment slip above Foxton Locks.

The embankment gave way after prolonged rain on Thursday 27th December, and the waterway closed, but work has been underway and a single passage cleared, Mary Panton tells us.

Permission

Work was held up as permission had to be obtained from Natural England to move the reeds, it being a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

This is only a temporary arrangement allowing single passage until the work can be completed and the embankment made safe.
