CANAL & River Trust trustee, Marisa Cassoni, has resigned just months into her three years appointment, writes Allan Richards.

However the financial guru has not spoken as to the reasons for her departure.

New trustees

Marisa Cassoni was appointed as one of three new trustees in March following a successful career in the private sector, mainly as a finance director. At various times she has held directorships with the John Lewis Partnership, Royal Mail, Britannic Assurance and Prudential. She was also a non executive director with Seven Trent for five years.

She is currently a Board member of the well known Peabody Trust, a social housing organisation with over 20,000 properties in London.

Committees

At CaRT's Board meeting in June, Marisa Cassoni was appointed to the trustees newly formed Property and Investment Committee. At the same time she was appointed as chair of the Audit Committee.

However, it is not known if these two committees ever met as CaRT has failed to published its Board papers despite its written commitment to do so.

The matter is now the subject of a complaint to the Information Commissioner.

Chairman's statement

Whilst Marisa Cassoni has made no statement concerning her resignation, CaRT's chairman, Tony Hales, has describes it as being for personal reasons.

To date, there have been two trustee resignations.
