THE lesser of the two breaches on the Trent & Mersey Canal where the bank gave way, at Croxton, has been repaired with the navigation now open.

Progress, we are told was quite good, and Canal & River Trust were able to open the stoppage sooner than expected, and opened today, Ralph Freeman tells us.

However, to safeguard the area, work will carry on raising the wash walls, to prevent any recurrence of the breach.

Dutton

The repairs to the major breach at Dutton are still in the planning stage, but it is hoped that it will be repaired in time for Easter next year.

We are told it is logistically a complex site, and the terrible weather over the last few weeks has made it harder, but the people from Sky have been able to reroute its optic cable diversion, by stringing it on poles past the breach.
