ANOTHER teenager, attempting to jump a canal lock has failed, injuring himself in the attempt, but made up a mugging story to cover his embarrassment.

The 19 years old, who has not been named, could not face being made to look a fool so made up a story that he had been stabbed by muggers, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Dudley Canal

He tried to cover-up his injuries to his chin that he hit on the stone coping of the lock wall after falling short, falling into the water, by telling West Midlands Police he had been stabbed by a knife and attacked by three men on the canal towpath and thrown into the Dudley Canal.

But his stepfather had videoed the whole stunt, with the police investigating the supposed attack carrying out a forensic examination of his stepfather's phone seeing the whole episode of the failed attempt to jump the waterway.

Fined

The police had launched an investigation after the supposed attack, wasting many man hours, but when the video was found the two were prosecuted and fined for wasting police time.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police told that the teenager had called officers out of embarrassment, to avoid telling his family what had actually happened.

West Midlands Police have published the video online to deter others from attempting a similar stunt:
