A TODDLER  has drowned in the Northampton Arm of the Grand Union Canal, and was found in the reeds in the waterway.

The two years old boy, known as Giovani, was discovered missing by his father who immediately raised the alarm, with a search of the area by the canal where he was playing, Graham Phillips tells us.

Thick reeds

The police, family and local residents searched the area in which he was playing, with the police discovering his body in the thick reeds that grow in this stretch of the Northampton Arm, as shown in the photograph.

This was on the waterway as it passes by West Cotton, approaching its junction with the Nene.  It is the second such occurrence where a child has mistaken reeds and drowned in a waterway, with it happening at Rotherham on the Sheffield & South Yorkshire Navigation two years ago.
