Manslaughter charge over canal death

THE man who was rescued from a Caen Hill Lock on the Kennet & Avon Canal has since died, and a woman arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.
The police were called after a man was found floating in the lock, receiving treatment on the towpath then taken to hospital, where he died, Alan Tilbury tells us.
Drinking around Devizes
The woman who has been arrested, it is understood was drinking with the man in pubs around Devizes before walking the towpath down the flight.
The police believe there was someone else walking the towpath at the time of the incident, seen waving to another man on a quad bike on the towpath, and would like to speak to him.

The man who died has been named as Gary Smith, and the post mortem examination gave the cause of death as drowning.
