Irish boaters moved

ALL the boating authorities are clamping down on boaters it seems, with families on Ireland's Grand Canal being given just two weeks to leave after being moored for up to 10 years.

Boaters resident in Lowtown Marina in Robertstown on the Grand Canal have had eviction notices served on them. Alan Tilbury reveals.

End of this month

Even though the boaters pay the marina rent of €100 a month, are connected to electricity and have rubbish disposal services, Waterways Ireland want them off, giving them until the end of this month to leave.

It seems that Waterways Ireland want to clean up the area, then use it as a site for use as a tourism amenity, so want the boats out of the way, using 'health and safety' as a reason for getting rid of the boaters.

Those served with eviction notices will have to find alternative moorings.
