Canal project needs volunteers

DAVENTRY District Council is calling for volunteers to help with a new canal project it has devised.

However it is not to improve the neighbouring Grand Union Canal or even its much opposed link into the town, but to improve wildlife habitats in and around local canals.

Improvements

Daventry District Council is working with The Wildlife Trust, British Waterways and the British Trust Conservation for Volunteers on a programme to make improvements to canal sites.

Work will include growth clearance, hedge laying, clearing side ponds of invasive species and building habitats for bats and otters.
