Don't want punts or canoes

THE rowers that use the River Great Ouse in Bedford do not want to share the river with punts and canoes.

The President of the Bedford Rowing Club, Mike Perry, has shown that the rowers want the river to themselves, and are not prepared to share it with people in other craft, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Operate punting and rowing

It was the Mayor of of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, who stirred up the rowers by inviting businesses to tender to operate punting and canoeing on the river in Bedford.

Mike Perry has criticised the suggestion, making it clear that he does not want other people sharing the river with rowers, and that the idea is 'ludicrous'.

He pointed out that rowers speed at 18mph and they do not want others wandering about the river in punts and canoes.
