Taking over Hargreaves yard

THOUGH empty since Hargreaves stopped moving coal by water, changing to lorries, its old yard and basin has been taken over.

Three brothers have moved into the yard, and are planning to construct a boat service yard, a chandlery and DIY facilities for boaters at the old Aire & Calder Navigation premises, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Open a café

Calling themselves Supreme Marine Ltd, the brothers, Damian, David and Shane Jones also hope to open a café at the premises in addition to the services for boaters.

It is hoped that the business will be up and running by March in time for the start of the boating season.

Since Hargreaves stopped transporting coal to the Ferrybridge Power Station by strings of pans, some five years ago, the basin and premises have remained empty.
