BW risk contempt of court

THE The Information Commissioner's Office is to serve two decision notices on British Waterways due to its failure to comply with the Freedom of Information Act, writes Allan Richards.

Complaints Officer, David McNeil states that the notices will be served during the week commencing 23rd January.

Totally unacceptable delays

The action follows several complaints that British Waterways is failing to comply with the Act.

One decision notice concerns what the Information Commissioner's Office calls 'totally unacceptable delays' in producing information. The other notice also notes 'totally unacceptable delays' and orders British Waterways to respond to outstanding information requests within 35 days.

Failure to comply with a decision notice (or appeal it) may lead to British Waterways being held in contempt of court.
