A PLAN has been put forward by the local canal trust to include a further channel on the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal in Gloucester to include a hydro-electric water turbine.

However at an estimated cost of £7 millions, and little knowledge where the money will come from, it would seem to have little chance, which is borne out by the fact that it is not being put forward until 2013/14.

Llanthony Lock

The details of the plan so far published show the new channel on the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal between the old Llanthony Lock and Maisemore, and will help with the control of flooding.

Weirs will have to be built, but it is stated that this will improve navigation helping boaters to reach Gloucester more easily.
