New lock gates for Ickles

ICKLES Lock on the Sheffield & South Yorkshire Navigation had its new gates installed today, as part of the winter maintenance programme.

Situated on the waterway near Rotherham, the lock gates were craned out and replaced with new ones made at British Waterways' Stanley Ferry Workshop in Wakefield, with the photograph showing a new gate being lowered into position.

Repairs

In addition to the new lock gates, new balance beams and cills and repairs to the lock chamber wall will also be carried out as part of the £125,000 project.
