Email: Why so many marinas?

Published: Monday, 21 November 2011

As has been said here and elsewhere, more marinas are most certainly not required.

What are required are more residential berths in the existing marinas, the vast majority of whom have none. For some reason planning authorities have a definite 'down' on residential  berths, but why?

They have very little, if any, effect on local services such as waste or sewage disposal, water usage, traffic volume or anything else I can think of.

I suspect that they have a similar view to the guy up the Staffs &  Worcs Canal and his 2000 visitors per weekend and a pall of diesel fumes over the marina. Uninformed and rather silly.
