Trent bridge too expensive

THE plans for what has been called 'a silly bridge' over the Trent at Gainsborough have been scrapped.

Though only a footbridge, it was to cost a staggering £6 millions, designed similar to Wembley's suspension cables with an 'S' shaped curved deck.

Ridiculous

Many local people thought it ridiculous and a complete waste of money, but as funds could not be secured for it, the bridge could not be built.

Architect Oliver Houchell designed the bridge, which was intended to connect the Old Guildhall and  Beckingham  near Trent Port, but although an initial grant was given by West Lindsey District Council, it will give no more, and any other funding looks to be in doubt.
