Email: Boaters off

Published: Wednesday, 10 August 2011

Mooring on the Oxford Canal this weekend we met with a group of cyclists, who shouted at us for obstructing the towpath.

It was quite narrow, about 4ft, and I was busy mooring the boat to some piling. One very aggressive young lady informed me that all towpaths were now part of SusTrans, and as such cyclists had right of way, so I better move. Needless to say I continued mooring the boat, and ignored her.

Between swear words, I was informed that SusTrans was set up by cyclists, for cyclists, and that nobody else had any right to use a SusTrans path. The motto isĀ  'Cyclists first, walkers second, everyone else get off.

Anyone any comments?
