Dangerous sign

SUCH is the addiction to warning signs these days, that the signs themselves are becoming dangerous, as the one on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal is proving.

The one on the towpath outside the Calypso Restaurant and Bar at Blackburn has caused no few near misses, with both unwary walkers and particularly cyclists having to swerve to miss it, Alan Tilbury tells us.

The landlord of the restaurant points out that the sign has extremely sharp edges and it is not secured properly which means it sticks out into the path, remarking:

"It could easily go through a child's head or eye and I've seen people swerving to miss it and nearly going down the sheer drop into the canal."

British Waterways, that erected the sign have told that it will be inspected.
