THE demise of the British Waterways pub partnership has at least benefited other establishments.

The refurbishment of the neighbouring Trent Navigation near to one of the partnership's pubs at Trent Lock at the junction of the Trent with the Erewash Canal and the Soar, has now a new lease of life, Alan Tilbury reveals.

New name

Together with its refurbishment it has a new name—The Trent Lock, and re-opened in time for the holiday week-end taking on extra staff to back its new head chef Terry Kilgannon, who was formerly responsible for the kitchens at Center Parcs.

Its new owner Mitchells and Butlers has spent around £300,000 on the refurbishment of the pub, with original features restored and the kitchen extended and modernised. New seating has also been installed.

The garden between the pub and the river has been landscaped with better lighting and a herb gardens.
