Thames World Pooh Sticks

THE World Pooh Sticks Championship is scheduled once again to take place on the Thames, with the organisers hoping for better conditions.

Last year's event had to be cancelled at the last minute after heavy rain resulted in high water levels at Day's Lock, where the event was to be held.

Red Flags

The Environment Agency put up red flags on the reaches of the river from Radcot Lock to Hurley Lock, that meant the organisers were unable to get their safety boats to the event.

Pooh Sticks was invented by the Winnie the Pooh author AA Milne as a game for his son, with contestants dropping sticks in the water and seeing which arrived at a designated finishing point first.
