Moorings for shopping

IN THE past it was impossible to get a mooring outside the Tesco store in  Aylesbury on the branch of the Grand Union Canal as all the towpath was taken up by the resident continuous moorers.

But as Alan Tilbury's picture taken yesterday (Wednesday) shows, British Waterways have done a good job in clearing them all away, leaving space now for genuine boaters wanting to moor to do their shopping, and remarks Alan:

"The clear towpath picture just has the Tesco store on the right, all the water edge grass has gone and the hedge is cut back. The white post in both pictures is the entrance to Tesco.

The second picture shows Alan's photograph of the same location in the days when the  Grand Union Canal was littered for miles by non licence payers, but a  purge by British Waterways has cleared them too. It was along the towpath shown that one of the boats was burnt-out.
