No cash for Bradley Arm

Published: Thursday, 12 August 2010

IT HAS been announced this week that there will be no cash to open up the Bradley Arm on the BCN.

It was in 2006 that it was decided to open up the stagnant silted-up canal, that needed dredging and the overgrown trees cutting back, but it is not to be, as the cash is no longer forthcoming the local council has been told.

First phase completed

The first phase of the project has already been completed at a cost of £250,000, clearing away the vegetation from the towpath and installing new security fencing, but the next phase has been shelved.

The original plan, to encourage boats back up the arm was to build facilities at the old workshops at the end of the arm complete with moorings and a winding hole.

The clean-up that was finished in 2007 won second place in the Bura Waterways Renaissance Awards, but is still not completed.
