Improving Tower Wharf

Published: Wednesday, 23 June 2010

A SMALL tasks team of six members of  the Shropshire Union Canal Society met up at Tower Wharf at Chester and set about some enhancement and refurbishment work.

This popular location has suffered from a lack of improvements of late due to the on/off redevelopment on the opposite side of the basin and we felt that with an event due shortly we could improve things both for the visiting boaters and the general public, writes Paul Mills.

We installed an extra 15 mooring rings. repainted the water point and release valve, furniture and signposts as well as updating signage and preparing for the installation of an information board that is due shortly. (George is seen painting the release valve.)

The team were joined for the day by our waterway manager Wendy Capelle who donned a strikingly coloured coverall and set about a days activity with a paintbrush.

All in all a good day was had by all. The area has been improved and smartened up.  Thanks to our BW staff for their support with logistics and materials.
