The residents of Deptmore Lock cottage

IN ANSWER to the enquiry from our correspondent Carmen Smith (Kara Sea),  about the residents of Deptmore Lock cottage, Evelyn Booth (Rome) writes:

The couple who lived there were delightful as were their pussy cats. I agree about the time warp. Sadly the gentleman died several years ago but the lady lived on there for a considerable time. We always spoke to her and had a chat when passing through. I just cannot think of her name now.

No mains of any kind

She told us about the difficulties of living there as there was no mains of any kind and they used to shop by taking a little boat up to Radford Bridge and getting a bus into Stafford. He used to start up their generator each day to give them power. The lady told us that the only way out when he died was with the help of a local farmer and tractor.

She finally realised that she could not cope with living at the cottage any longer, and a couple of years ago made the decision to move onto a nearby housing development. We miss her gentle character each time we go through that lock.
