Boater arrested on suspicion of boat murder

A BOATER has been arrested on suspicion of murder of a fellow boater after a fight on a narrowboat by Bridge 212 near Dutton on the Trent & Mersey Canal.

The fight occurred on Friday morning (30th April)on the boat, with police being called, who found a man suffering from head injuries, who died shortly after, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Arrested

A 36 years old man from Birkenhead was arrested on suspicion of murder, with a spokesman for Cheshire Police stating:

"At just after 8.50am today Cheshire Police attended a report of an incident that had taken place on board a barge [narrowboat] on the Trent & Mersey Canal at Dutton, between Northwich and Runcorn.

"Two men aboard the vessel had been involved in an altercation that resulted in one of the men receiving a serious head injury. Paramedics were called and the man died a short time later."

Canal closed

The canal was closed yesterday while forensic officers combed the area, with the boat across the channel, and the whole scene cordoned off.
