A bank has formed
Silt levels are so high that a bank has formed in the middle of the basin, yet it was dredged in March of this year as the tall ships were unable to enter.
Yet narrowboats are unable move from the basin due to the extreme amount of silt.
The problem arose over the years after the introduction of new environmental regulations and changes in dredging practices took place it allowing more silt to build-up.
New dredging
Canal & River Trust told of new dredging investment for a recovery dredging programme for Gloucester Docks, and confirmed that £2.8 million has already been spent on recovery dredging during the past financial year.
But obviously it was not enough, with the trust telling the second phase of the £4m dredging programme is due to begin later this month.
