THE GRAND UNION CANAL is closed by a broken balance beam on a lock.

This is Stoke Hammond Lock 23, Keith Gudgin reports.

This occurred yesterday, Sunday, with the lock gate being unworkable as a result, so the lock is now closed to navigation.

It was in June that another broken balance beam closed the Grand Union Canal, that time on Lock 2 of the Braunston Flight. Then the Walsall Lock Flight, also in June, suffered a  rotten gate beam.

Not operational

Canal & River Trust advise the lock at Stoke Hammond is not currently operational due to a broken balance beam. But updates will be shared as soon as further information comes in.

This alas, joins the other stoppage on this canal, due to low water levels on the Leicester Section, that are effecting this navigation.
