THERE ARE INTENTIONS to create a new terminus basin on the Burslem Branch Canal, by the Burslem Port Trust.
This will be alongside a renovated and repurposed Shropshire Union Warehouse of the 1850's, Dave Broome reports.
Complete reinstatement
This will be together with the complete reinstatement of the 1805 Burslem Branch Canal, which breached in 1961 and was subsequently infilled.
The canal was built to get all the pottery from the 31 companies up in Burslem, via a tramway, down to warehouses around several wharves and then off down the half mile to the Trent & Mersey Canal to all parts of the world. A huge success for Stoke on Trent.
