THERE HAS BEEN TWO separate incidents where swans have been crushed in a lock.
This was on the Kennet & Avon Canal in Bath, Janet Friend reports.
Both incidents were caused by hirers who did not have the acumen to clear the swans from the lock before entering, so were trapped by the boats and the wall of the lock.
Issue leaflets
Bath Swan Rescue are prompting hire companies to issue leaflets to hirers on the care of swans, as both incidents could have been averted.
An adult swan in one incident and a cygnet in another both later died.
