THERE WERE TWO waterways closed yesterday—Sheffield & South Yorkshire Navigation and Huddersfield Broad Canal.
The former has a fault on Sprotbrough Lock (pictured) that is currently not working as a solenoid has failed making the lock inoperable, Keith Gudgin reports.
However there are people working on this today, Thursday, we are told.
Huddersfield Broad Canal
There is a stoppage on The Huddersfield Broad Canal as a culvert is in need of repair, it not allowing enough water to navigate between locks 8 and 9
Water levels are being lowered to enable the culvert to be repaired, but until this is completed the pound will will be unnavigable.
The length of time the navigation will be closed will of course depend on the state of the damaged culvert.
Caldon Canal
The Caldon Canal between Cheddleton Lock 13 and Bridge 44, was closed to navigation.
This is due to an oil spill.
The trust's teams have now rectified the problem and the navigation reopened.
