THERE IS A POPULAR WALKING ROUTE off the Sheffield & Tinsley Canal towpath.

Known as the five weirs walk, Janet Friend reports.

But this has been cut-off with the trust installing gates at each end of a mile length of the towpath of the canal, that has closed the loop.

This occurred some six months ago, closing the walk to the hundreds of walkers, cyclists and runners, leaving them to detour away from the attractive walk into the built-up areas of Attercliffe.

Difficult for some

And also adding a great extra distance, making it difficult for some. The closure is in the form of steel fencing and the gates.

With the trust telling the closure is a long-term repair plan that is being formulated, with no intimation when this will be completed.
