IT WAS WAY BACK IN MARCH that the Rochdale Canal was closed between Lock 81 to Lock 83.

Lock82PennineLeak discovered

This was after a leak was discovered, Keith Gudgin reports.

At that time we were told it would be closed to allow the trust's teams and engineers to carry out a detailed inspection of a leak located below Lock 81, which has resulted in low water levels. Image of Lock 82 by Pennine Waterways.

Now we are informed that a CCTV survey has been undertaken and the trust is moving into the next stage of work and are preparing the plans and agreements needed to carry out more detailed on‑site investigations.

Further investigations

Over the next weeks, the engineers will be carrying out further investigations that will include setting up the site to allow excavation work to take place.

These investigation works will enable our engineers to finalise the detailed design prior to undertaking the permanent repair work. With the waterway at that point still being closed to navigation.
