THERE HAS BEEN AN UPDATE at last on the Daw End Canal.

That was closed on the 9th February, Keith Gudgin reports.

We now learn that the closed waterway from Aldridge Marina to Aldridge Wharf Bridge at Walsall has now reopened.

The canal was closed by contaminated pipework along the waterway causing pollution, with the trust waiting until the pollution had naturally biodegraded.

At the moment the only remaining active pollution is limited to an area where residual material is leaching through the waterway wall.

But this has been fully contained by bunding and the waterway reopened.

Ashton Canal

The Ashton Canal that was closed by broken paddles—we were not told how manyhas now had them repaired.

These at the time closed the locks 9 to 12, but they are now repaired.
