A PROPOSAL HAS BEEN MADE to construct an hydroelectric turbine on a Severn weir.
This will be by the weir on the Diglis Island side of the river, Janet Friend reports.
Deliver the project
Worcestershire County Council is behind the scheme it suggesting it could work with the University of Worcester and National Grid to deliver the project.
It realised that the costs and the planning need to be investigated with a feasibility study to examine how it can expand the idea and make it a reality.
The turbine would be built on the Diglis Island side of the Severn weir, and could power hundreds of homes or the nearby industrial estate.
Already a turbine
There is already such a turbine generating a local comprehensive school and an aluminum foundry on the nearby industrial estate, with any surplus entering the grid.
The much larger plant that is envisaged would of course produce much more power.
