A NEW MARINA IS TO BE BUILT at Northwich's Weaver Shipyard.
This is in conjunction with 83 new homes also to be constructed, Janet Friend reports.
Eight year ago
It was eight years ago that the plans were submitted, and Cheshire West and Chester Council first approved the plan in principle.
But local opposition and Northwich Town Council raised fears about traffic congestion and impact on biodiversity.
It is told that a range of properties are to be built with some 'affordable'.
It seems the addition of a marina possibly helped the plans to be passed, but there is no information of the number of boats it will hold.
Boat lift out of action
But with the Anderton Boat Lift so often out of action all last year and now all this year, the only way is via the Manchester Ship Canal, that has restrictions on its lock off the river, it really doesn't seem such an attractive proposition for boaters, with so limited access.
However, it has all now been approved and work to begin.
