KEGWORTH DEEP LOCK 56 (sorry, now named Kegworth New Lock, so not to frighten the nervous boaters!) will be closed all February.
This is to carry out essential repairs, Keith Gudgin reports.
The lock on the Leicester Section of the Grand Union Canal had already had its top gates replaced, but it is the bottom gates that are causing problems.
Replaced at same time
The gates were intended to be replaced at the same time as the top gates, but flooding prevented the work being undertaken at that time. (Photograph by Pam Pickett.)
So the essential repairs to the bottom gates, that will improve their operation, will be undertaken during February.
The closure of the lock will start at 8am on Monday the 2nd February and expected to be completed by 4pm on Friday 20th February.
