Regarding the scheme to move water from Atherstone to Luton, writes Keith Gudgin.

Firstly the map is right, Atherstone is north of Coventry!

Secondly, both Hillmorton and Braunston locks will also require the water to flow uphill. Also how will it get over the summit pound at Tring?

Thirdly, the canal network doesn't go to Luton! Closest point is Leighton Buzzard.

Also who is going to clean the canals of all the 200 plus years of toxins and other nasties that have been, and are still being, thrown into it to make it clean enough to drink safely?

And finally, hasn't this scheme been muted before and been rejected for various reasons?

[Yes it has and been rejected as not viable—Editor.]
