A PART OF A BROKEN willow tree has stopped navigation on the Shropshire Union Canal.
This snapped off in the recent high winds and now has to be removed from the canal in the centre of Chester.
The large part of the tree, as can be seen from the picture, has fallen right across the canal with branches covering the narrowboat that is moored directly across.
Right across waterway
It is also partly submerged with its branches across the waterway.
The removal is now up to Canal & River Trust, as Cheshire West and Chester Council have 'washed their hands' of it, not taking responsibility.
So the trust have arranged for its removal and the canal to be cleared of branches and to make certain the rest of the tree is safe.
