TWO MERCIA CAFÉS have been chosen for the inaugural Derbyshire Dines awards.

These two are out of five Derbyshire cafés to be named on the shortlist of the best cafés in the county, Janet Friend reports.

This comes following the launch of the inaugural Derbyshire Dines awards, which looks to highlight the best restaurants, cafes, pubs and takeaways in the county.

The two Mercia eateries are The Beetroot Tree—where we often take a meal, it being our preference, with its French toast out of this world!

The second is The Boat Café, though not actually, in the marina itself but by its bank just past Midland Chandlery and over the bridge, and also reached from the canal by its bridge.

Onto a broad beam

The Boat Café has recently moved from its original narrowboat onto a broad beam, with the extra space meaning that business is growing.

These two join the Highfield Farm Shop Tea Rooms at Standedge, Cool River Cafe in Matlock and the Cup & Saucer in Clay Cross. Voting is set to close at midday on the 31st July.  This is organised by Derbyshire Live.
