Contractors still working to stop the latest 'leak' on the Macc
THE LEAK THAT occurred on the Macclesfield Canal at the end of May has not been rectified.
The leak is between Sugar Lane Bridge 26 and Kerridge Road Bridge 27, Keith Gudgin reports.
Canal & River Trust telling that its contractors have been working over the past week to reduce the leak but have not been successful.
Partially successful
Their efforts have been partially successful in slowing the flow of water, but the leak has not been reduced enough to reopen the waterway.
This means that the area will have to be drained to allow for a more detailed inspection of the canal bed and develop a repair plan.
The trust tells it is doing everything it can to reopen the canal as quickly as possible, and once the area is drained and fully assessed, there is a possibility of knowing when the canal may be reopened.
