A BOAT CAUSED MAYHEM after it struck a rail bridge.

It stopped many trains whilst it had to be inspected to make sure all was safe for trains to proceed, Janet Friend reports.

BoatHitsBridgeIt meant that hundreds of rail passengers faced disruption after the boat collided with Somerleyton Swing Bridge.

After the bridge over the Waveney was struck all trains over it had to be halted as it was not sure what, if any, damage had been caused. Image by Denise Bradley.

Wedged under the bridge

This was because the boat was actually wedged under the bridge and it was not then sensible to use it.

This occurred just before noon on Wednesday, but it was discovered that no actual damage was caused to the bridge after the boat was dragged away, and the swing bridge is now working.

During the time it was out of order passengers were given tickets for various bus services to get them to their destinations.
