Spill weir problems stop boat trips
BOAT TRIPS OFFERED on a restored section of the Wilts & Berks Canal Trust have regretfully had to be cancelled.
The trust first started offering boat trips on the narrowboat Nonsuch in Royal Wootton Bassett just three weeks ago on Saturday, 3rd May, Janet Friend reports.
Postponed
But the trips have had to be postponed due to lack of water and the boat 'scraping the bottom', caused by problems with the Woodshaw spill weir that stopped holding the water, and so lowering the pound.
Though the spill weir had been temporarily repaired, a lack of rain since the problem meant the canal was unable to get the amount of water deep enough for the trip boat.
Much needed funds
Nonsuch can carry up to eight passengers and two crew as it cruises along the waterway, raising much needed funds for the restoration of the canal.
With the current rainfall, it is hoped the canal will have enough depth to again take the trip boat.
