A SUNKEN NARROWBOAT that has been in the Thames for years has been raised.

It was discovered by divers engaged in another matter when they came across the submerged boat that had sunk in deep water in a Thames channel in Oxford, Roger Fox reports.

Crane needed

A crane was needed to enable the boat to be reached and then pulled out, with divers instructing the crane driver throughout the operation.

When the boat was eventually surfaced it was completely rusty, showing that it had been in the water some considerable time.

Sheepwash Channel connects Castle Mill Stream with the Thames, through Isis Lock.
