Two waterways now reopened and a futher one this weekend

WE ARE TOLD BY Canal & River Trust that two navigation closures are completed.

These are the stoppages on the Regents Canal and the Trent, Keith Gudgin reports.

Hampstead Road Lock 1a had a more severe failure than initially thought early this month, it then being needed to be de-watered to repair, its closure affected four other locks that were then closed to navigation.

However the work has now been completed and all the locks reopened.

Trent

Another lock that was closed earlier this month was Hazelford Lock 3 on the Trent.

There being repairs required together with work on the sluice.

This time however navigation was allowed with help from staff with boaters asked to follow instructions from trust representatives on site, who would advise on safe passage through the lock.

It is now completely repaired and full navigation allowed.

Trent & Mersey

Lack of water caused the Trent & Mersey Canal to be closed early this month between locks 41 and 71, that were affected by low water levels and thus currently closed to navigation.

Work is progressing to get the levels back to normal, and though still closed to navigation, it is hoped that this will be okay for navigation this week-end.

Another closed

But alas, there was another closure yesterday—the Aire & Calder, with Woodnook Lock 6 closed to navigation.

All we are told is that there is a 'technical issue', but it is suspected this is caused by a suspected sluice failure, which will be assessed by the Canal & River Trust team today, Friday.
