Wilts and Berks Canal Trust get new contract for redevelopment

SWINDON BOROUGH COUNCIL have granted the Wilts and Berks Canal Trust a new agreement for restoration.
This will see a length of the waterway restored at Mouldon Hill in Swindon, Janet Friend reports.
This section has seen no work for a while, but now work parties are clearing the undergrowth starting at the aqueduct end to give a clearer area to work.
Within the Swindon boundary
The trust aim to restore the canal from Melksham to Abingdon, with several miles of this within the Swindon boundary, hence the agreement with the council.
All the restoration is being done in stages, and when completed will allow the trust's trip boat Dragonfly to give longer cruises.
Eventually it is expected that the Wilts & Berks will connect the Avon at Melksham to the Thames at Abingdon.
